What are the hardware requirements for SSI Web?

What are the hardware requirements for running SSI Web and the other installed software produced by Sawtooth Software?

SSI Web and all other installable programs created by Sawtooth Software (except for the CAPI for Android software) are all Windows-based programs; they will not run on other operating systems unless you have a Windows emulator running on those systems. Your PC needs Windows Vista Service Pack 2, Windows 7 Service Pack 1, Windows 8, Windows 10, or later. It is also recommended that all Windows Updates and Service Packs have been installed.

Ideally you will want a fast computer and a generous amount of storage space, as offered by most every PC that can be purchased today. A PC with a 2.8 GHz processor, 4 GB RAM, and at least 5 GB of free storage space is adequate for most projects. However, if you have more processors, faster processors, solid state hard drives, and additional memory, most applications will run faster, especially during the hardware-intensive estimation routines. Please see the following article if you want to learn how to speed up these estimation routines: Why HB Takes a Long Time.

Sawtooth Software survey creation and analysis tools are designed to be run from your local computer, not a shared network device. The software cannot handle multiple users or processes accessing the same file at the same time without corrupting the data.

During the installation of our software, you may need to disable firewalls and security software or add exceptions to allow our software to run properly. SSI Web installs and uses the Apache web-server framework so you can test your surveys on your computer without needing to upload them to a server. In order to test your survey, you will need access to any Internet browser that has JavaScript enabled, such as Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari, and Internet Explorer, among others.

After a survey has been created and tested on your own computer, it may be uploaded to a web server so that others may access the survey. If you are not using the Sawtooth Software Hosting service to host your surveys, you may upload them to your own web servers. More information about the hardware and software requirements for self-hosting may be found here: What are the server requirements for hosting SSI Web surveys?
